Save Energy With a Chest Fridge
You can use an external thermometer to convert a chest freezer into a fridge.
VS
How?
- Cold falls; tubs hold fluid….including cold/falling air!
- Chest freezers tend to be better insulated than a standard fridge
Case Study:
Baseline: A Frigidaire 7 Cu Ft Upright Fridge uses 220kWh anually.
The Test: A HotPoint 7.1 Cu Ft Chest Freezer was plugged into an External Thermostat with the temperature probe inserted into the “freezer”.
This setup was tested with ambient temperatures around 74F. Over a 24hr period this setup consistently uses 0.2kWh of electricity.
Over the course of a year, it uses only 73kWh!
That’s 1/3 of the energy annually, simply by changing the shape and orientation of how you store your food.
